Charles and Kaielynn have a small chat about Indominus safety.
BEGIN
--------------
Charles: -was overseeing the class as they finished up their tests. It was quiet, for the most part, a few of the students muttered under their breath as they debated amongst themselves which answer would be the best. The Professor's elbows were resting on either arm of his chair, and his fingers were steepled over his lap, his gaze not on the class but in a book. It wasn't like he needed to watch them, anyway, and he knew it made a few of them nervous. This test time, for the most part, everyone had a sense of calm.
Then, one by one, they began to pass them in. The professor looked up and nodded, passing a kind and reassuring smile for every applicant, though he was waiting for one in particular to be finished.-
Kaielynn:- she personally was not one of the numerous calm test takers in her class. Several factors kept her from reaching the weirdly zen tranquility her class mates had. 1: she wasn't any good at philosophy.... It was all thought, no solid actions or results, and there was almost never a wrong answer.... How could everyone be right at the same time? It drove her a little nuts and it did little to make her desire to know more. 2: her mind was still back a couple of days in the danger room.... She'd never had anything like that happen before..... Kaie had canceled her later training slot so she could spend time in the library to figure it out.
Because of her distracted state, she was the last to hand in her test. The very. dead. last. Her shame at not completing sooner like a proper honors student made her trudge to the professors desk and hand it in as if it was the slip to her execution, sliding it on top of the pile.- have a good day professor. -she said, sounding tired as she adjusted the strap on her bag and made her way to the door.-
Charles: Is something troubling you, Kaielynn? -He had picked up on the walk and the talk, and as he looked up from his book to her, his eyes held a sense of knowing- Other than it being test day, of course.
Kaielynn:- she blinked and looked at him curiously for a moment, she hadn't been expecting the question so it took her a moment to process it. Once she had she snorted, amused, and shook her head, offering a light though tired smile- nay, test days are just the worst. -she offered, rubbing the back of her neck sheepishly. The test was troubling her after all. And she wouldn't call what had happened with the indominus Rex troubling..... More like a slightly urgent scientific inquiry that she couldn't leave alone. Especially if she wanted to be able to use the sisters in battle someday.- and ah have a lot o work tae dae en the library sah.... -her tone made it clear that she was politely asking if she was dismissed-
Charles: Research to be done on your new projects, I assume? -He didn't exactly want to be rude, but he felt like addressing her on these points was of high importance. There were no other ears around to listen in, so this would be kept between them both alone.-
Kaielynn:-she nodded regretfully, though that abashed little smile didn't go away.- aye.... Didnay quiet get et right sah ets back tae the drawin board.
Charles: Would you mind talking with me for just a little while, Kaielynn? -he asked, maneuvering his chair to go around the desk and stop just before the dip and then rise to go up and out of the room, so that she could sit at one of the tables or stand but they could still be at somewhat of an equal basis as he could physically give her-
Kaielynn: -the sudden feeling of an incoming lecture suddenly crashing on her shoulders. Oh shite. ran across her mind before she could grab it and stuff it deep down. It was rude to curse in front of the headmaster. - Uh.... Sure Professor? -she said a bit nervously, looking back as she stepped to the table behind her, and stepping one leg up a bit higher so she could perch on the edge. -
..... Es something wrong? -she asked hesitantly as her mind ran through everything she could have done to earn a lecture as she tried to prepare. She was getting top marks in most of her classes.... except psychology and philosophy.... She was training a lot, hadn't let up once since she made it on the team. She hadn't broken any rules that she knew about really.... except staying in Darren's room most nights if she wasn't in the library.
Then a certainty hit her.- Es this about the Compsognathus en the library? Ah tried tae tell Mrs. Boyd that he wasnay the wan rippin the books.... -she started, a little defensive.... that lady had disliked her since the first time she cleared out the biology section and accidentally fell asleep at one of the tables.-
Charles: -Hadn't meant to make her incredibly nervous and on the defensive at his question. He hadn't even began . . . Though her assumption was greatly amusing even if it was very, very far off. He gave her another smile, and a light chuckle. He was fully aware of Mrs. Boyd's apprehensive nature when it came to the library.- No, no . . . Actually, that was a story I hadn't had the pleasure of knowing before today. -He paused, resting both of his hands on the arms of his chair and leaning back a bit- No, I'm afraid this is a much more serious manner, though I believe it isn't something to get apprehensive about. Not presently. - He paused again, wondering if he should wait, or just start right into it . . . -
Kaielynn: Oh good. -she couldn't help murmuring, relaxing when he said it wasn't about that, and she couldn't help the slightly guilty chuckle as she realized she just tattled on herself.
The headmaster became more serious and she did as well, straightening and sitting more properly as he leaned back. She looked at him curiously, fidgeting slightly with the hands in her lap. It was hard to stay completely calm when getting a private chat with the leader of the X-men about a concern of his.-
Charles: -Well, he might as well just get to it . . . - Here, we encourage the development and work to help those control their powers and capabilities. I have always been amazed by yours, in particular, for many reasons. Your development has been exponential, even with the short time you've been here. However, it's your recent developments that leave me . . . concerned. -It didn't exactly sound how he wished it to . . . -
Kaielynn: ...... -What had started as flattering, suddenly made her stomach drop.- The Sisters? -she asked. Kaie hadn't thought anyone else knew about that. The first and only time she'd summoned them so far and they had managed to nearly turn on her. She had never had to actually work for her alpha position in one of her own packs..... It had been a frightening experience.... which was exactly why she hadn't told anyone about it.- Ah'm gonna fix 'em professor.....
Charles: -Nodded once in response to her question, his features a little solemn.- Yes. -By the looks of her expression, he didn't need to pry into her mind to know that she was fully aware of what he was speaking. He paused again as she promised to fix them, and his right thumb swirled small circles idly over his index finger- I have no doubt that you will. Still, until you have better control of them, I worry about, firstly, your safety, as well as those that will be working with you.
Kaielynn: Ah'm nay takin anyone en with mae till ah get em right. -she promised quickly, raising her hands submissively as she talked- Trials only till ets safe...... Ah wouldnay put anyone else at risk.... -she added, heartfelt. The risk to herself happened every time she tried a new summon, and these ones were as unnatural as she had ever tried... she knew there would be set backs.... she just hadn't been expecting those ones. But her mother could make dragons... She knew dinosaurs were barely scratching her potential.-
Charles: -nodded in immediate understanding. She'd already thought this through, then . . . - If I might ask, -he said, after a moment- Perhaps you could take someone to watch. Logan, perhaps. -He knew they were close- Just to ensure if anything goes wrong, you have someone to help you.
Kaielynn:-she frowned and shook her head- with all dae respect sir....ah... Dant want them tae have any.... Distractions... -she meant temptations but she wasn't going to condemn her first species when it had only been one test. And while it was difficult to control them by herself, having them focused on her alone made it easier... If someone else had been there, she wasn't sure she could have held them back.- nay till ah have em.... Safe. - on our side -
Charles: -nodded again- I understand. Now I only urge you to take the utmost care.
Kaielynn: -she nodded again- ah am..... -though she was a little nervous now that she was more consciously acknowledging the very possible reality that until they were tamed the worst could happen.... And she wasn't so much worried for herself... But the danger room wouldn't be able to contain them forever if she did go down.- es.... Es there perhaps a more secure location? Wan that has better... Safety measures? - so that if I'm wrong and they kill me, at least they can be put down too -
Charles: The Danger Room is your best bet, I'm afraid. It was designed to be able to contain whatever mutant ability a student might possess that came to learn how to control their gifts. I've seen it withstand great a many thing, even the strength of something paralleled to your summons. The only way out is through the door, and at your Sisters' sizes, they wouldn't even be able to make it into the passageway. Though the possibility of them being able to overpower you is why I urge that you bring someone to at least oversee your work, to stay in the Control Room unless you allow them to do otherwise.
Kaielynn: from the control room would they bae able tae put em down? -she asked as she nodded. Now she saw what he had been getting at. She had pictures Logan in the room with her. Which now that she knew the meaning seemed obvious. She hadn't realized that the room was as strong as it was. That at least made her feel better.-
Charles: Measures have been taken before, yes, -he answered carefully, though now that he thought of it, he wasn't too sure how long staying in the Control Room would work with Logan if really any student was in danger under his watch . . . Yet he still left him as the best choice in Kaie's case, all the same.-
Kaielynn: -that didn't sound comforting.....but if the professor said it then it must be true. He didn't exactly seem the type to have any reason to lie to anyone. Let alone a student who could be putting all of the others in danger hypothetically. She raised her eyebrows, asking silently if that was all.-
Charles: -He smiled kindly at Kaie, then, nodding once- Thank you. I'm well aware you're busy, and I appreciate you taking the time to discuss, even if you thought of most of my concerns before I managed to speak with you.
Kaielynn: -she smiled, taking that as a very high compliment, and sitting a little straighter for it. her grin grew as she thought of just one last thing.- Sah.... ah'm guessin dragons would bae out o the question fer a while? -her tone was mostly joking, though not in a disrespectful kind of way.-
Charles: -chuckled with the same regard- That would be a question I cannot answer, Kaielynn. I learn about your abilities at the same rate as you do. Your gifts are especially unique.
Kaielynn: -she dipped her head appreciatively and slipped off of the desk- thank yea professor. -she said in all seriousness.- Ah won't let yea down. -she said firmly, before walking out the door. All and all that wasn't so bad. It could have been about something much worse.... like Mrs. Boyd banning her from the library. The mere thought of it was enough to make her shudder.-
