charles xavier the basics full name • Charles Francis Xavier nicknames • Professor X age • 51 birthday • 15th of September occupation • Professor, Headmaster of Xaver's School for Gifted Mutants affiliation • X-Men gender • He/Him/His sexuality • Demisexual the appearance face claim • Sir Patrick Stewart height and weight • 5'10" / 170 lbs identifying features • N/A overall appearance • One of Xavier's most defining features is one of his greatest weaknesses--- he is bound to a wheelchair, and no longer has the use of his legs. However, this hasn't seemed to stop him much in his ploys to fulfill his goals. If he had the ability to stand tall, he would stand at five feet, ten inches, and without his wheelchair weighs in at one hundred and seventy pounds. Charles is bald, possessing not a single hair on his head; another one of his identifiable features. His face and body structure reflect his age; no longer possessing aspects of youth. Instead, his features carry almost unfathomable wisdom, usually accompanied by a soft, kind smile, a prominent nose, and strong brows. His eyes bear the same endless wisdom that he has earned, and never seem to judge, always with a kind and soft, amused light about them. For the most part, the Professor is best-dressed in appearance while around others. He's always in a suit, of varying colors depending on the day and his mood, accompanied with a tie, slacks, and nice shoes. One can only guess if there will ever be a day where he will appear in casual clothes; though it doesn't exactly appear to be his style. the personality overall personality • Charles has had a lot of time to develop into the man and teacher he is today. He has a gentle nature, always speaking with a quiet voice and even tones, kind and calm at all times. His patience knows no bounds; no matter the person or the place or the situation it seems that he always has time to deal with anyone who is in need. The Professor's intelligence is vast; he's well-studied and has experience on most if not all of the subjects his school has to offer and then some, possessing arguably one of the greatest intelligences in the world. He is devoted to his students and his purpose, and strongly believes that someday his school will not be the only safe-haven for mutants, but humans and mutants alike will be able to peacefully co-exist. He's friendly at every turn, always willing to take the diplomatic solution to every problem if he can help it, and takes the time to ensure he's examined every possible outcome before even considering otherwise. Everything he does seems to put others first before himself, and he's always willing to extend a helping hand and wise word to ensure they get to where they want to be. One of Charles's greatest strengths, surprisingly, even with all of his vast power and knowledge, is that he is still aware of his humanity. He knows that even with all of his gifts, he is still human, and strongly believes that is the connection that binds humans and mutants together. He is humble at all times, never once seeing himself as more important than any other person on the street. He has seen the horrors of what humanity is capable of, and rather than being disgusted was only inspired. There are times where he grows weary; where the days seem to have grown longer, but never once has the Professor lost his sense of hope. He grasps the silver lining of his want to gain peaceful equality, has seen the potential in his school and in the open and learning minds of his students, and he draws his strength from seeing them grow. Still, even with all of his wonders, there are times where his hope can cause him pain. He sees the good in everyone, even at times when it might not even be there, and leaving himself open for potential harm. And with the vast power he possesses, of all the things he can do, the possibilities and potential solutions he has before him carry great, dark, temptations. Charles is fully aware that with his psionic prowess, he can turn the world upside down, but at the same time does not, because he believes in giving everyone every chance they deserve. And all the same, it's still there . . . chaos held reverently behind the hope that he can always offer better. the abilities Special abilities • TELEPATHY Charles has a vast, psionic prowess, standing as arguably one of the most powerful telepaths in the world. He can read the thoughts of other people than himself, and project his thoughts to others through telepathic links. Not only can these links just be with himself and the chosen one, but he can link together multiple people for each to be able to hear everyone involves' thoughts. His range of being able to read minds sits at an extensive radius of up to two hundred and fifty miles, and with some great concentration can even greatly extend this radius, and with the help of Cerebro can extend this even further. Charles can also psionically affect the minds of others at will, able to sift through and create or destroy memories, make himself or others appear invisible, and if it was at his digression even make them see things that aren't there, and similar actions. He can induce temporary paralysis of the mind and or body of other people, making it seem to those left unaffected as though time has stopped, and can even project psionic blasts that will leave a person knocked unconscious. If in the presence of another being, he can take full possession of their mind and manipulate them at will, though he must be in the presence of the person or persons affected to be able to do so. He can project an image of himself that he and the minds of those he is influencing can see and interact with, and while usually he only prefers to use one can create multiples of these. The Professor can sense the presence of other mutants within a very small radius by picking up on the distinct mental radiations emitted by them, and usually greatly extends this with the help of Cerebro. TELEKINESIS Charles can manipulate objects with his mind and has had much time and practice to be able to do so with ease, within a maximum radius of a hundred or so miles or less depending on what he wants to manipulate and how much the net mass is. The more objects he is manipulating and the more mass each affected object has, the more he needs to concentrate and the less he is able to move. With telekinesis, he can: Bind and object or person to keep them from moving, levitate objects and move them through the air at will, and telekinetically grip, pull, and push objects keeping them firmly in place or moving them toward or away from him, and can even redirect an object in the middle of its current course. Can "see" around him using an ability called spatial sense, and does not have to look at something to know that it is there. Telekinetically compress objects, e.g. crushing a can with his mind Manipulate objects, like unlocking doors and takeing things apart to learn how things work and put them back together again, and alter objects' inner workings at will. Weaknesses • One of Charles's greatest weaknesses is that he limits himself. Despite the fact that he has unimaginable power, he is aware of his humanity and the fact that even with all of his gifts, he is still basely human. There are lots of temptations that come with his power, yet he limits himself to minimal affections and manipulations. His vast self-control limits him greatly from doing powers even beyond those could display. He is fully aware of his limitations and doesn't step over his self-made boundaries. His kindness leaves him at a disadvantage toward those who would mean him harm. He believes that there is good in everyone, and there might be a time where he sees it and it just isn't there, leaving him open. The Professor can no longer physically move his legs. He is bound to a wheelchair, and, as he is fully aware, is human. He is prone to illness and injury the same as any other, but even so draws strength from this weakness. Skills • Charles is a leading authority on genetics, mutation, and psionic powers. His expertise stretches over many other fields, including philosophy, multiple forms of life sciences, and psychology, and his knowledge and expertise in mutations grows with every student he takes under his wing. the history hometown • New York City, New York overall history • Charles came into the world as a child of a wealthy nuclear researcher. His home life wasn't a perfect one, but it was pleasant enough. He was a smart child from a young age, and his father often told him he was destined to be of great importance. Then, when he was ten years old, he started hearing voices in his head. He thought he was going crazy, but didn't feel inclined to reach out for help, afraid of what that might mean. It wasn't until he was twelve that he realized that the voices were in other people's heads--- he was reading minds. Over time, he learned to develop and control his powers. Within the first few years, he met a young girl named Raven, who possessed powers like him. Charles was delighted, and invited her to live with him and his family. He was a brilliant student, and at sixteen he graduated from high school and then went on to attend England's Oxford University, becoming an expert in all things genetics along with a good number of other studies such as biophysics and psychology. When he was finished with these studies, he was approached by an Agent Moira MacTaggert, who wanted his help in stopping a Sebastian Shaw. She presented them to the Chief of the CIA as her proof that mutants existed and asked that he recruit them to help capture Shaw. He refused, but they were then sponsored by a Man in Black. Charles, Raven, Moira, the Man in Black and the US Coast Guard went to arrest Shaw on his yacht, however, he escaped in a submarine, but this lead Xavier into saving an Erik Lehnsherr from killing himself while trying to stop it. Together, he, Erik, and Raven went with the CIA and formed a group with a number of other young mutants. Charles helped them develop and learn to control their powers in order to stop Shaw. He and Erik became very close friends, and Charles tried to help Erik alleviate his hatred for Shaw and his fear of a mutant holocaust. Before long, they discovered where Shaw and his team was hiding, and together moved to stop his plans to use the Cuban Missile Crisis to start World War III and eradicate all non-mutant life. During the struggle, Erik and Charles worked together to confront Shaw, who was trying to turn Erik to his side. Charles wanted to capture Shaw alive, while Erik had other plans. Charles pleaded with him to be the better man, while he held Shaw still with his telepathic abilities to protect his friend, but Erik still went on to kill him. It was then that they were faced with the Soviet Union and the United States forming an alliance to destroy what they believed to be a mutant threat, and fired missiles at the island. Erik deflected them with his powers and planned to use them on the fleets that had wanted to destroy them, and Charles, furious for what his friend had done with Shaw and his disregard for all of the lives he was about to destroy, tackled and attacked him to get him to stop, which stopped the missiles, but lead to something worse. Moira MacTaggert had moved to fire on Erik to stop him from using the missiles, and one of the bullets that the master of Magnetism deflected pierced through Charles's lower back, paralyzing him for life. Erik tried to convince Charles that they both wanted the same thing, to which Charles replied, "I'm sorry, we do not." Erik departed from Charles, with Raven and his new Brotherhood. Charles, on the other hand, as he learned to maneuver in a wheelchair, had decided that there was a line between innocent and evil, and he vowed to always be in Erik's way and protect mutant and human kind from evil mutants and those like them. And that was when he officially started Xavier's School for Gifted Mutants. Over time, Charles collected a number of different students and became proficient in almost every study he could teach, and created the X-Men to help with the retrieving and the protection of mutants. He encountered Erik often, though they were no longer friends, as much as it pained him, but rivals. After decades of confrontation, Charles grew wiser and more aware of his humanity and the weaknesses he had, even against his great power, and tried to convince his former friend into giving up his relentless war-mongering. But the Erik he knew had long spiraled into immovable stubbornness and could not be turned. Their rivalries continued, worse than ever before, and Charles began to blame himself for not being able to stop Erik into transforming into who he had become. And then, Erik disappeared. Despite all they had been through, Charles missed the man he once knew. But now, he focused on his school, and the students within, and kept a watchful eye for new threats to those that he had vowed to protect. the role player alias • Scribs age • 19 pronouns • they/them/their |
